Saturday-Wednesday Photos

The Hague and Delft

I have had internet connection problems with my computer, otherwise I would have been posting more often. Sorry about that. I think we are back on track now though, so I should be posting more often.

On our visit to the Hague on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we stayed at a youth hostel in the North Sea town of Scheveningen - just a tram ride from The Hague. As you can see from these photos, we played soccer on the beach on the North Sea.

In the Hague we saw Queen Beatrix' "Noordeinde" work palace. Several of us were also lucky enough to be able to watch parliament in session. All of us visited Mauritshuis - an art museum where we saw works by Jan Steen, Johannes Vermeer and Peter Paul Rubens. The most famous piece of art we saw was Vermeer's "The Girl with the Pearl Earring." We also visited Madurodam - a miniature "city" which gives an overview of the country itself.

On Wednesday we took a tram from The Hague to Delft. In Delft, we climbed 350 some stairs to the top of the tower of the New Church. We also toured Prinsenhof Museum, the place where William of Orange was murdered.

Days 1 & 2 Photos

Planes, Trains & Buses
Most of these photos are from our trip to the Netherlands on planes, trains and buses.

Other photos include a photo of the Durbins and Mr. Hubbers and Mrs. Lamers in front of St. Catherine's Church in Doetinchem.

After overcoming jetlag, on Friday morning we went to Ulenhofcollege where several Dutch teachers taught us about Dutch history, geography and art.

There are also several photos from Friday afternoon when we visited the small village of 's Heerenberg and toured Castle Bergh. While there, several of our students were interviewed by Graafschap TV about the Ulenhofcollege-TC West exchange.

Departure Day Blizzard

This is the view in Traverse City on the day we were scheduled to fly from Traverse City to the Netherlands. Our flight was supposed to leave Traverse City at 8:00 a.m. When we went to bed the night before there was no snow on this deck. The morning of Wednesday March 23rd, this is the scene. Our flight from Traverse City to Detroit was cancelled. Mr. Durbin has been awake since 1:00 a.m. trying to arrange alternate flights. We now will be taking a bus from Traverse City to Detroit and getting on a plane in Detroit at 10:50 p.m. and flying directly to Amsterdam instead of going to Dusseldorf. We will get to the Netherlands eventually!! We are all looking forward to it.
